Malawi has only a handful of trained orthopaedic surgeons to serve its entire population of over 20 million people. Once a year, the Malawi Orthopaedic Association brings together this small but vital community surgeons, clinical officers, and healthcare partners — for a national scientific conference that shapes how the country tackles its trauma and orthopaedic care crisis.

The 2023 conference, held in Dowa District, tackled the theme “Orthopaedics and disaster management: lessons from Cyclone Freddy” — a direct response to the reality that Malawi’s health system must also prepare for mass-casualty events. Donations support:
