    The Ministry of Health in partnership with various stakeholders plans to hold a National Trauma Summit as a strategic action in the implementation of Emergency Critical Care Strategy (ECCS) 2021 – 2031.

    Prior to the Summit, the ministry and its partners will hold a consultative forum aimed at engaging with stakeholders in Emergency Trauma and Orthopaedic services to create awareness on trauma health as a priority health and socioeconomic agenda as well as to map the way forward on improving service delivery. The National Trauma Consultative Forum has been slatted for the 15th and 16th November, 2023 at Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe, Malawi.

    The 2-day event which is themed “Rethinking and Creating a Dynamic Trauma and Orthopaedic System: A move towards a priority in public health and social economic agenda,” will draw an estimated 140 delegates from Malawi with invited local and international speakers.

    The consultative forum aims to achieve the following objectives:

    1. To engage stakeholders in trauma and orthopaedic service and create awareness on trauma health as a priority health and socioeconomic agenda.

    2. To deliberate on the subthemes for 2024 National Trauma summit.


    Maureen Sabawo, Malawi Orthopaedic Association President, highlighted the significance of the forum as we strive to improve Trauma care in the country

    She said, "The National Trauma Consultative Forum will bring together all stakeholders that work towards improving injuries in Malawi. Hence, the discussion will focus on how to improve and mitigate the burden of injuries and trauma emanating from Road Traffic accidents in the country.
